LES: Unsteady Atmospheric Turbulent Layer Inlet. A Precursor Method Application and Its Quality Check

چکیده
The motivation of this work is to bridge the gap between experimental approaches in wind tunnel testing and numerical computations, in the field of structural design against strong winds. This paper focuses on the generation of an unsteady flow field, representative of a natural wind field, but still compatible with Computational Fluid Dynamics inlet requirements. A simple and “naive” procedure is explained, and the results are in good agreement with some international standards.

Large-eddy simulation of turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubes submerged in an emulated atmospheric boundary-layer
Turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubic obstacles has been numerically investigated using large-eddy simulation. The simulations have been performed using high-performance computations with local cluster systems. The array of cubes are fully submerged in a simulated deep rough-wall atmospheric boundary-layer with high turbulence intensity characteristics of environmental turbulent fl...
متن کاملInlet Boundary Conditions for Embedded Les
The paper evaluates a new method to prescribe synthesized turbulent inlet boundary conditions. The method can also be used when prescribing turbulent fluctuations at an interface between (U)RANS and LES regions when the flow enters the LES region. When making LES, DES or hybrid LES-RANS a precursor channel DNS is often used. The disadvantage of this method is that it is difficult to re-scale th...
متن کاملGeneration of Turbulent Inflow Data for Spatially-Developing Boundary Layer Simulations
A method for generating three-dimensional, time-dependent turbulent inflow data for simulations of complex spatially developing boundary layers is described. The approach is to extract instantaneous planes of velocity data from an auxiliary simulation of a zero pressure gradient boundary layer. The auxiliary simulation is also spatially developing, but generates its own inflow conditions throug...
متن کاملNUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF WIND PRESSURE COEFFICIENTS ON SCALLOP DOME
The wind loads considerably influence lightweight spatial structures. An example of spatial structures is scallop domes that contain various configurations and forms and the wind impact on a scallop dome is more complex due to its additional curvature. In our work, the wind pressure coefficient (Cp ) on the scallop dome surface is studied numerically and experimentally. Firstly, the programming...
